Shikoku Electric Power Company, Incorporated (the "Company"), cognizant of the importance of appropriately and properly handling the personal information of customers, shareholders, and others, strives to protect personal information pursuant to the following policy:

1. Acquisition and Intended Uses of Personal Information

  • The Company clearly states the purposes of use of personal information and acquires personal information through appropriate means.
  • The purposes of use of personal information handled by the Company (excluding personal information of employees) are as set forth below.

Purposes of Use of Customer Personal Information

The Company uses personal information to carry out its main businesses—the electric power business*, electric water heater leasing, heat supply, steam supply, sale of coal, gas supply, overseas electric power generation and consulting, and real estate leasing—and the provision of various services and information relating to these business activities.

The specific business operations of the electric power business are as set forth below.

  • Execution and performance of electric power supply agreements
  • Finalizing electric powered charges and collecting claims
  • Long-term and stable supply of electric power
  • Service activities relating to the use of electric power
  • Ensuring the safety of the electric facilities of the Company and customers
  • Establishing and maintaining electric power supply facilities
  • Acquiring, maintaining, and managing land rights for electric power facilities
  • Electric power sales promotion activities
  • Electric power load equalization
  • Ensuring the safety of construction
  • Other activities ancillary to or that contribute to these business activities

When using personal information in the above business activities, the Company complies with the Guidelines for Proper Electric Power Trade established by the Fair Trade Commission and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and gives due consideration to ensuring the appropriateness of transactions.

Purposes of Use of Shareholder Personal Information

The Company uses personal information to ensure the efficient exercise of rights by shareholders and implementation of operations specified in the Companies Act and other applicable laws and regulations.

2. Use and Provision of Personal Information

  • The Company uses personal information only to the extent necessary to conduct business operations for the purposes of use indicated above (when the purpose of use was specified at the time of acquisition, that purpose of use).
  • In cases where personal information is jointly used with third parties or the handling of personal information is outsourced to third parties, personal information is provided to only after conducting rigorous investigation of such third parties and performing appropriate supervision to ensure strict maintenance of confidentiality after provision.
  • Joint use of personal information with third parties (excluding the personal information of employees) is conducted as set forth below.

  • The Company engages in limited shared use of personal information with businesses to the extent necessary to achieve the purposes of shared use. Customer personal information is not necessary subject to shared use with all electricity retailers, General Electricity Transmission and Distribution Utilities, Negawatt aggregators, Electricity distributors and Power generator.
  • "Electricity retailers":
    A retailer to which none of the grounds for refusal of registration specified in Article 2-5, Paragraph 1 of the Electricity Business Act (Act No. 170 of July 11, 1964) do not apply and that has been registered as a retail electric power business by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (includes retailers that are deemed to have been registered as electricity retailers pursuant to these supplemental provisions of the Act Amending the Electricity Business Act (Act No. 72 of 2014)).   • "General Electricity Transmission and Distribution Utilities":

    Companies that have entered into demand control and adjustment supply agreements with members that are General Electricity Transmission and Distribution Utilities and Electricity distributors(including businesses whose business codes are acquired prior to agreement execution).   • "Retail service and others agreement discontinuation intermediation":
    Businesses that have received requests for new Retail Service and others Agreements, etc. from customers making requests for cancellation of Retail Service and others Agreements etc. to existing businesses on behalf of those customers.
  • "Power generators":
    Power generators refer to those as defined in the Terms and Conditions for Wheeling Service, etc. stipulated by the General Electricity Transmission and Distribution Utility. The scope of shared use by power generators is limited to information on supply sites in the same demand locations as the power generation locations.

3. Personal Information Security and Management

  • In order to ensure the accuracy of personal information and to prevent leakage, loss, damage, etc., of personal information, the Company implements appropriate security management measures as follows.

Establishment of internal rules on the handling of personal information

  • We have established internal rules on methods of handling personal information, persons in charge and their duties, etc. at each stage including acquisition, use/provision, management, erasure/disposal, etc.

Organizational security management measures

  • In addition to appointing the officer responsible for the General Affairs Department as our general manager for personal information management, we have clarified employees who handle personal information and the scope of personal information handled by those employees, and have put in place a reporting and communication system to deal with violations and suspected violations of laws and internal rules.
  • We perform regular self-inspections on our handling of personal information, and audits are conducted by our internal audit department.

Personnel security management measures

  • We regularly provide education and training to employees on the proper management of personal information.
  • Matters regarding confidentiality of personal information are stipulated in our work regulations.

Physical security management measures

  • We implement entry/exit management in buildings and offices where personal information is handled.
  • Documents, electronic media, computers, etc. containing personal information are kept under lock and key in order to prevent theft, etc. of personal information.

Technical security management measures

  • We control access to information systems that handle personal information and implement measures against unauthorized software.
  • Personal information stored in our information systems is protected by encryption, passwords, etc.

4. Disclosure, Correction, Suspension of Use, and Deletion of Personal Information

If the Company receives a request from a customer or a customer’s agent for notice regarding the purposes of use or disclosure, correction, suspension of use, deletion, and so on of the customer’s personal information, the Company responds promptly and appropriately.

5. Improvement of Measures Relating to the Protection of Personal Information

The Company periodically examines its measures relating to the protection of personal information and strives to make continuous improvements.
